Biotechnology for Health and Wellness
Welcome to the 234th ACS National Meeting from President Katie Hunt
Our overall theme for the ACS National Meeting in Boston, MA, (August 19-23, 2007) is “Biotechnology for Health and Wellness” (BIOHW). Biotechnology, what an appropriate focus for Boston, a center of higher education, health care, and a thriving economy based on research, finance, and technology.
We have 3 exciting sub-themes under the BIOHW programming umbrella, including:
* Material Innovations: from Nanotech to Biotech and Beyond!
* Nutritional Genomics and
* The Chemistry of Systems Biology
We owe a debt of gratitude to the corresponding program chairs (Han Shen, John Finley and Les McQuire), the leaders of the Divisional Activities Committee (Kevin Edgar, Dave Lohse, Dwight Chasar), the Committee on Meetings and Expositions (Willem Leenstra), ACS staff and all those who engaged over 18 divisions (see sponsor list) in organizing over 50 world-class symposia.
Sunday afternoon, August 19th, we launch into a keynote Presidential event, “Material Innovations: from Nanotech to Biotech and Beyond!” (Boston Convention & Exhibition Center, 205 A/B). Five world-renowned scientists and innovation leaders, George Whitesides, Chad Mirkin, Chuck Lieber, Dave Tirrell and Cathy Lewis, will cover a range of topics on interdisciplinary material innovations, concluding with a panel discussion. Feel free to submit questions for the panel, in advance of the symposium.
Here’s wishing you safe travels. See you in Boston!
p.s. We’ll be taping this session. So, if you can’t make it to the “live” presentation, you can view it virtually here; or even if you do make it to the presidential event, you can review it again and share it with your colleagues across the hall or across the ocean.
Let the dialogue begin!
